About Australia Day… Australia Day is commemorated every year on the 26th of January. The day marks the anniversary of arrival of the First Fleet at Port Jackson in New South Wales in 1788 and the raising of the Union flag by Arthur Phillip following exploration. This Fleet was sent by British Admiralty and it included 11 ships that set sail from Portsmouth to Australia, carrying the first prisoners which became the first European settlement in Australia. Australia Day is an official national holiday dedicated to honoring the aspects of our country that we admire.
